Dressmaker camera and accessibility: Build 443 setup checks

Read article

Check the confirmed Dressmaker camera, animation, outline and bloom options in Build 443, with a practical sequence for comfortable viewing.

Which camera controls does the patch actually name?

Build 443 changes mannequin zoom from stepped to smooth. Hold Control while scrolling the mouse wheel to zoom, and hold the right mouse button while dragging to pan. The notes also confirm keyboard orbit controls, but do not name every orbit key. Use the current on-screen hints rather than inventing a universal key map from an old clip.

The developers label the camera work unfinished and say they may revise it again. A control that differs from a launch video is therefore not, by itself, evidence of a broken installation. Check the installed build and the scene first. The cutting room has its own panning changes, and the sizing room has separate wheel and arrow-key adjustments.

How should you compare the viewing options?

Option or change Official scope A useful comparison
Less Animation Disables scrolling textures and zoom effects in sewing and cutting scenes Revisit the same transition or work area
Red outline option Allows the red outline to be disabled Check whether you can still identify the selected object
Bloom option Adds a bloom setting Compare bright fabric details in the same view
Photo flash reduction Reduces camera-flash brightness Distinguish the flash from the scene’s normal lighting
Fast Trim Placement Reduces clicking when placing trim Compare one short edge before a long border

These changes address different kinds of visual or input demand. The announcement does not describe Less Animation as a complete removal of every animation, and it does not publish a medical or accessibility certification. Choose the option according to the specific effect that bothers you.

What is a sensible first setup pass?

Start with a familiar project and a scene you can return to. Note the current setting before changing it. If moving textures or zoom transitions are the issue, compare Less Animation first. If bright highlights obscure a seam or an accessory, compare bloom while keeping the viewpoint steady. If selection outlines are distracting, try the outline option and verify that selection remains understandable to you.

Do not change display resolution, camera distance and several visual options in the same pass. You would no longer know which adjustment affected the problem. This is an editorial comparison method, not a developer benchmark or an assurance that a particular setup suits every player.

For fine placement, make the object large enough to inspect, pan until the relevant edge is visible, and rotate to confirm its depth. Then return to a wider view. The close view answers whether an item intersects the garment; the wide view answers how it sits in the design. See the trim workflow for the object-selection sequence.

What differs between the work scenes?

In the cutting room, the patch allows drag panning and mouse-wheel panning while scissors are selected. In the sizing room, mannequin gears can be adjusted with the mouse wheel or arrow keys. These are scene-specific statements. A wheel input that pans in one context should not be assumed to resize or rotate in another.

Read the tool selection before diagnosing an input conflict. The cutting guide separates layout and collection, while the measurement guide separates customer dimensions and pattern drafting. Neither stage is fixed by a camera adjustment alone.

Is controller support already available because the game runs on Steam Deck?

As checked on 31 October 2026, Steam rates Dressmaker Playable on Steam Deck, rather than Verified. Valve’s compatibility data (JSON) reports that the default controller configuration is functional and the default graphics configuration performs well; it also flags small text, some non-Deck button icons and minor display issues. This is Valve’s report, not this wiki’s own device test. Check the Steam store for the current rating before buying.

That compatibility rating does not mean Build 443 delivered full native controller support or complete rebinding. The Build 443 announcement calls gamepad support and rebinding priorities. A Steam Input configuration and a native in-game control scheme are separate things.

What accessibility options does Steam list?

Steam’s product data (JSON) lists Custom Volume Controls, Mouse Only Option and Playable without Timed Input. These are store labels, not an independent accessibility assessment by this wiki. In the game, compare the specific visual and input options above with your own needs; the labels do not confirm full controller rebinding.

A community Steam Deck layout to try

In an October 3 Steam discussion, player Kattz describes sharing a community controller layout: the right stick handles general cursor movement, the right trackpad handles precision, and L1/R1 emulate the scroll wheel. The player also uses the touch screen for some accessory placement and suggests adjusting trackpad sensitivity. Look for the shared layout in Steam’s controller settings and compare it with the current game controls. This is one player’s report, not a site playtest or a guarantee of comfort or compatibility; another player in the same thread found trackpad use uncomfortable.

If input still fails after identifying the correct scene and controls, record the input device, build, active tool and last action. For a crash, keep system information separately from a discomfort or navigation report. The troubleshooting checklist helps report those cases clearly.

Official record

Checked 21 October 2026. Controls and option descriptions come from Build 443; comparison steps are editorial. The release roadmap distinguishes planned features from delivered patches.
